SPRINGFIELD – The skin is the largest organ in the human body and for at least one in five U.S. adults, a canvas for body art.
But 17 percent of those with tattoos have expressed some regret after getting inked.
According to studies by the American Academy of Dermatology and Pew Research Center, while the tattoo industry in America nets roughly $1.7 billion, at least 5 percent of the population has covered up a tattoo they dislike with another and 11 percent of individuals with a tattoo are planning to, or have already, had one removed.
Restore Skin Care Center, a new division located on Main Street, provides a solution for those suffering from tattoo regret.
Restore Skin Care boasts an advanced laser removal option known as PicoSure that can remove both black and colored ink by delivering short pulses of energy that shatter the ink, and it takes half the amount of time of the traditional tattoo removal.
“There is a steadily rising number of people who come to regret their tattoos, which means there is an increased need for improved tattoo removal systems,” Dr. K. Francis Lee of Restore Skin Care Center said. “Where previous tattoo removal methods were painful and had the potential for permanent side effects, this new laser tattoo removal is a less harmful solution that offers better clearance of the tattoo and improved recovery.”
The laser technology utilized by Restore Skin Care Center delivers ultra-short pulses that hit the ink particle with a pressure so great that the ink shatters into tiny dust-like particles that are so small, they are able to be absorbed and eliminated by the body. The result is better removal of the tattoo using half the traditional treatments overall.
“The PicoSure laser is also known for its ability to improve a variety of skin imperfections including sun spots, wrinkles and acne scars,” Lee said. “With this, Restore Skin Care Center is able to provide patients in Western Massachusetts with improved and restored skin in half the number of treatment sessions required by other laser devices.”
