Annual golf tournament to raise funds for Bay Path athletic teamsDate: 6/2/2009 LONGMEADOW - Go green this summer and hit the links for a good cause the Bay Path College Wildcats! On June 5, Bay Path College will host its third Annual Golf Tournament at 11:30 a.m. on the Westover Golf Course in Granby. The annual tournament will benefit the Bay Path Wildcats, and proceeds from this event will purchase new uniforms and sports equipment, and offset additional expenses for Bay Path teams.
A competitive NCAA Division III college, Bay Path began its inaugural season of the Wildcats' participation in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) last fall, competing in basketball, cross country, field hockey, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. The teams, coaches and fans were treated to a wide variety of highly competitive contests this year, and all of our sports teams received either NECC team or individual awards.
Bay Path Wildcats are recruited from high schools throughout New England, but every Bay Path undergraduate has the opportunity to play. "Bay Path College student-athletes learn life skills that can be applied on and off the field," said Bay Path Athletic Director Steve Smith. "We encourage women student-athletes to work hard, study hard and play hard, and we realize that athletic talent and desire to compete can emerge at different stages of a student's life. One of the joys of competition is watching the growth of a person in ability and confidence through playing on the field or the court."
Sponsored by TD Insurance Inc., Gallagher Koster, BFP Associates, IKON and Naomi's Inn, the event includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, dinner, raffles and a silent auction. During dinner, awards and prizes will be given for low gross and net, extreme score, closest to the pin, longest drives and hole-in-one. Hole-in-one sponsors include area auto dealer Gary Rome, who has donated a car, and Teddy Bear Pools & Spas, which will award a pool or spa valued at $3,500. Participants may bid on autographed sports memorabilia, a round of golf on the Yale Golf Course and two nights at a bed and breakfast, among many other items, during the silent auction.
The golf tournament registration cost is $100 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and dinner. Those interested in attending just the dinner may purchase tickets for $35.
