Hi folks and welcome to your new local news outlet, The Ludlow/Belchertown Reminder.
Perhaps some of you are already familiar with The Reminder. We have been successfully distributing our East Longmeadow edition in Ludlow for many years at locations such as Randall’s Farm.
If not, allow me to introduce the company and the newspapers we produce.
Founded in 1962 by the late Carlo and Anne Buendo, the publication grew from a local shopper to a community newspaper. Under Dan and Chris Buendo, it expanded with more editions and publications.
A little more than three years ago, Chris and Dan elected to sell the company to Advance, the corporation that also owns The Republican and MassLive. The decision was made to maintain our independence so none of the editorial decisions are made by anyone other than Reminder staff.
During this three years, we have embarked on an expansion plan bringing community news – much of which has been abandoned by daily print products – to readers who want to know what is happening in their town.
I’m happy to say the expansion has been successful and we are perhaps the only newspaper operation in the Northeast that has grown during this very difficult time.
This edition is our ninth and all are home delivered, something advertisers really appreciate. Our circulation audits indicate we have 300,000 readers in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties.
We also publish a daily newspaper serving Westfield and Southwick as well as two popular monthly magazines: Prime and Go Local.
Here’s a few things I would like you to know about us:
We love hearing from our readers, so please send us your announcements and press releases to Managing Editor Payton North at pnorth@thereminder.com. Give us the information two weeks before an event is scheduled to take place.
The reporter assigned to this new edition is Dennis Hackett, a young writer who has proven himself over the past two years. He can be reached at dhackett@thereminder.com. Payton and Dennis are a great team and are looking forward to getting to know you better.
Your letters to the editor are welcomed. Please send them to news@thereminder.com. They should be 500 words or less and can not libel anyone.
We just don’t sell ads, We work with businesses to address their needs and help them to remain competitive.
Unlike other people in my position, I do not make political endorsements. For me that is not the role of a newspaper – an unpopular opinion among some in this industry. I believe our role is to provide information about candidates and issues and allow you, the reader, to figure our how you should act.
Launching a new edition is always exciting. The company is always eager to build new relationships in a community both for news and advertising.
I’m looking forward to being able to serve two more communities with our brand of community journalism.
If you have comments you would like to share with me, please drop me a line at news@thereminder.com.
Thanks for reading.
