Six Flags New England to host Holiday in the Park eventDate: 11/20/2020 AGAWAM – After a lost 2020 season, Six Flags New England returns with a “Holiday in the Park” event that will begin on Nov. 27.
According to the Six Flags New England website, this is a “re-imagined experience featuring over one million dazzling lights, plus entertainment.” The calendar shows that the extravaganza will be open to the public 5 to 9 p.m. every Friday through Sunday through the end of November, and all of December. It will also be open with the same hours from Dec. 27 to Dec. 31.
The website describes the event as a “magical walk-through” for guests of all ages. More than one million “dazzling” lights will decorate trees, foliage and buildings across the park. Residents will also witness “beautifully adorned Christmas trees, a synchronized light display, “enchanting” characters, festive holiday treats, and state-of-the-art décor” throughout the park.
Jennifer McGrath, the communications manager at Six Flags New England, told Reminder Publishing that residents must make a reservation when signing up, and a maximum of 10 people per group will be allowed, when signing up. Reservations can be made through the Six Flags New England website at, https://www.sixflags.com/newengland/events/holiday-in-the-park-lights.
“Our mission was to provide a family-friendly, safe holiday event to really make the season very special,” said McGrath. “Our guests are going to go through a one-way trail that will look to access our property in a very socially-distanced fashion.”
McGrath emphasized how immersive this event will be for the public, as participants will be welcomed to walk through, and experience lights across the property. Music will also be played as guests make their way through the park.
“We as a Six Flags brand, when we do anything, we do it really big, and really spectacular,” said McGrath. “With our rides not being open, we need to make sure we provide our guests with that unique experience.”
The walk-through event, according to McGrath, has been in the works for quite some time now so as to ensure that everything is perfect when it comes to safety measures and other protocol. She describes the lights as “gorgeous,” and said she got emotional when everything was first lit up.
“We wanted to make sure with the Six Flags brand name, that it was going to surpass every expectation,” said McGrath.
Aside from the lights, the park will also be decorated with 15-foot reindeer props, a 30-foot ornament, and two Christmas trees that are five and seven stories high.
“We’re really committed to giving something that you may not be able to find everywhere right now,” said McGrath.
The amusement park also plans to include festive characters in a “unique meet-and-greet capacity.” The characters will be elevated on a stage wearing masks that coordinate with their costume. Several characters will be lit up, according to McGrath, and the elevated stage will be 10 to 12 feet apart from the guests to ensure safety. People are allowed to take photos of the characters as well.
“While our characters may not be able to hug or touch our guests, you better believe kids are going to see them waving and smiling, and really having that magical experience,” said McGrath.
There will be several venues open for food too, according to McGrath. Since this is a one-way walkthrough event, McGrath said that someone will guide guests through the park to make sure they get the full experience. Clam chowder, broccoli and cheese soup, hot chocolate, fried dough, and candy apples will be among the food available during the trail.
“We’re really giving all of that classic holiday festive treats that you’re able to enjoy throughout our park,” said McGrath. “It is a limited menu, but it is a phenomenal menu.”
As with every aspect of this event, all of the safety measures are elevated for food venues in the park, as well.
The event is free for guests who have a seasons pass membership, according to McGrath. Those passes are extended through next year, since the park was closed for all of 2020. If you aren’t a seasons pass member, visit the Six Flags website to purchase a ticket, which is $19.99 per person.
According to McGrath, prior to making a reservation on the computer, guests will be asked to do an entire safety review of all the COVID-19 protocol, so that they’re well-prepared when they enter the park.
“We’re very proud to create such an enticing price point for families to be able to enjoy, and really get that phenomenal experience,” said McGrath.
If guests have any questions, McGrath encourages them to visit the Six Flags New England website for more information.
“We are so thrilled, and we hope guests are too,” said McGrath. “Just the fact that we’re outside in this large property … it’s definitely to reassure our guests that we have a unique opportunity to take advantage of all the acreage we have to spread folks out.”
