Mercy Medical Center seeks volunteersDate: 3/27/2013 SPRINGFIELD – Compassionate volunteers are needed at Mercy Medical Center to inform local cancer patients of programs, services and resources available to them through the American Cancer Society's Cancer Resource Network.
Currently, there is a need for a volunteer or volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
A newly-diagnosed patient may have questions about how to tell his or her family, what treatment options are available, or may need help understanding the complex medical system.
There will be many practical considerations as well, such as what treatment will be like, how to handle financial concerns, or how to get to and from appointments.
Through its Cancer Resource Network, the Society offers programs and services that address the needs of those touched by cancer.
Many different forms of support are available for patients, both online and in- person.

All American Cancer Society services are offered free of charge, and information is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
