Red Cross offering new nursing assistant and home health classes

Date: 9/5/2010

GREATER SPRINGFIELD -- In today's economy many local residents are looking for ways to increase their employability. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing reports that the United States is projected to have a nursing shortage that is expected to intensify as baby boomers age and the need for health care grows. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes at the American Red Cross Pioneer Valley Chapter offer an affordable option for people seeking an introduction to the field of nursing.

The American Red Cross has been involved in nursing for more than 100 years. In addition to training nurse assistants, providing disaster relief, organizing blood drives and teaching water safety, the Red Cross has provided first aid and safety instruction to generations of Americans. The nurse assistant training course continues the Red Cross tradition of outstanding training that benefits participants and their communities.

The Red Cross Pioneer Valley Chapter offers a combined day or evening nurse assistant and home health aide training program. After successfully completing this training program, students are eligible to apply for the Massachusetts state examination to become a Certified Nurse Assistant and will have the skills to work in any health care environment. Classes are offered at both our Springfield and Northampton training centers.

To learn about class offerings contact the Pioneer Valley Chapter at 737-4306 or visit www.redcrosscwm.org. Trainings are offered on an ongoing basis at a variety of convenient times. Phlebotomy and EKG Technician courses are also available.
