Dance ‘explodes’ at Bing Arts Center

Date: 11/4/2011

November 2. 2011

SPRINGFIELD — The Bing Arts Center, 716 Sumner Ave., will present “Dance Explosion!” on Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. This exciting event commences the Bing Artbeat World Music Series, which will continue through June. “Dance Explosion!” features performances by 413 Dance Company, Liberty Styles, and Dan Mackey.

The 413 Dance Company is directed by Springfield Public School (SPS) teachers Elisabeth Olivera and Laura Netherwood. They created the company to provide opportunities for experienced adult and teen dancers to train, perform, and choreograph in a professional capacity. The company is comprised of SPS teachers and students, in addition to other dancers from the community.

Collectively they project a creative vision supporting a variety of abilities and dance styles.

Liberty Styles will demonstrate her scintillating nouveau flamenco dance style. Elegance and excitement will be offered in this fusion of tradition and modern performance.

Dan Mackey, aka Dan-ski, has been dancing and drumming since his early childhood. His impressively eclectic musical career has included numerous performances with soul and hip-hop artists, musical theater, and videos. Mackey has been involved with bboying (break dancing) since the 1980’s as performer and competitor.

In October he set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Berani Flip. He spent many hours in the former Bing Theater while growing up in Springfield, and we are delighted to welcome this electrifying performer back to the Bing to help put the “explosion” in “Dance Explosion!”

Tickets are $7.50 each, with all proceeds helping to fund this year’s expanded programming. Tickets are available at Flowers, Flowers!, at 758 Sumner Ave, or by phone at 731-9730.
