Fourth and fifth grade students needed for music recording

Date: 5/11/2009

Instrumental music teacher Susan Lauser is looking for local fourth and fifth grade students to record a CD of vocally-performed folk songs, spirituals and rounds to help children learn to play string instruments musically and accurately.

Lauser, a Master's of Arts in Education candidate at Goddard College, is developing a new lesson book to teach elementary school children how to play the violin, viola, cello and bass. The method incorporates the aural aspects of the Suzuki Method, but is geared towards students attending public school where parents don't typically attend the lessons.

Traditional note reading is included from the start, while the CD of the folk songs that will be recorded by the fourth and fifth graders will be included to help the children learn how to associate the music with the notes.

Lauser has taught elementary instrumental music in public schools for 15 years and also provides private lessons for students studying string instruments.
