Hair Cuttery to give disadvantaged children free back-to-school haircuts

Date: 8/6/2012

SPRINGFIELD — Children receiving a back-to-school haircut at the Hair Cuttery salons in the Springfield area during the first two weeks of August will be giving one back to a disadvantaged child in the community.

Hair Cuttery, the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in the country, will launch its 13th annual Share A Haircut program to provide children in need with a fresh haircut to start the new school year.

Through Aug. 15, every time a child (18 years old or younger) receives a haircut at any of the Hair Cuttery salons in New England, including the salons in Springfield, West Springfield, Chicopee, Ware, and Westfield, a free hair cut will be donated to a disadvantaged child in the community. In the Springfield area, Hair Cuttery is partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to distribute the haircuts.

"We expect 75,000 haircuts to be donated in communities across the country to children in need," Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery, said. "We're proud to offer this program that gives children the opportunity to help other kids in the community. A simple haircut can make a big difference in a child's appearance and gives students more confidence as they start the school year."

Nearly 900 salons nationwide will participate in Share A Haircut. Hair Cuttery has donated more than 625,000 haircuts since the program's inception in 1999.

Hair Cuttery has a history of charitable giving. The company supports Locks of Love and a range of national and local charitable causes, including: Dress for Success, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, Buzzing 4 Change, The St. Baldric's Foundation, Easter Seals, The Hero Campaign, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
