Learn the art of letter writing at Historic Deerfield

DEERFIELD " April school vacation week at Historic Deerfield will feature Paper, Pen and Ink: The Tools of Letter Writing, April 20 through 24, daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants are invited to drop in anytime.

Each day of the vacation week, explore a different part of the letter writing process.

On April 20, make and take a sheet of homemade paper.

On April 21, experiment with a variety of different ink recipes and make some ink to write with.

On April 22, find out what it is like to use writing tools of the past including quill pens and slate pencils.

On April 23, learn about the language of letters and fancy alphabets. Practice your penmanship.

And, on April 24, learn how to make an envelope, and seal it with sealing wax and a stamp.

The price of these workshops is included with general admission.
