Springfield Museum hosts Family Fun series this Monday

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Museums' Family Fun series will continue on Jan. 19 with "Under the Sea." Activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are free with museum admission unless noted.

Weekend Family Fun programs are sponsored by TD Banknorth.

Scheduled presentations:

11:30 a.m. Discover the Science Museum's live aquatic animals with Safari Dan.

1 p.m. D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts KLS Magic Castle Puppet Theatre will present "Oceans Away," a colorful and musical story about ocean characters who want to protect their habitat from pollution. Dolphins, whales, sea turtles and penguins will entertain and educate audiences about the sea.

Ongoing activities:

Go on an underwater adventure through the Science Museum and visit the Solutia Live Animal Center to learn about marine critters.

11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Create a sea-sational jiggly jellyfish at the Science Museum.

Noon - 3:45 p.m. Design your own underwater world in the Hasbro Games Art Discovery Center at the G.W.V. Smith Art Museum.

The Springfield Museums' family learning initiative is funded, in part, by MassMutual Financial Group; the Bank of America Charitable Foundation; the Horace A. Moses Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, Trustee; and the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Eugene A. Dexter Charitable Fund.

The Springfield Museums are located on the Quadrangle at 21 Edwards St. in downtown Springfield. Free parking is available in the Edwards Street parking lots. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Science Museum open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and college students, $5 for children three to 17, and free for children under three and museum members. Springfield residents are free with proof of address.
