Annual run/walk set for July 15
SPRINGFIELD Runners, walkers, friends, and supporters are invited to come out to Springfield's Forest Park for the Fourth Annual Frank J. Orszulak II 5K Run/Walk for Cancer to be held on July 15.
Organized by the Orszulak family in memory of their father, Frank, known during his life throughout East Springfield as an avid runner and walker, the event serves to raise funds for the Leukemia Society of America.
Additionally, this year a portion of the proceeds will be donated to St. Mary's School in Longmeadow and Springfield's Cathedral High School, two area schools attended by the majority of the 13 Orszulak grandchildren. Several have carried on the Orszulak athletic tradition as standout players at Cathedral in hockey, soccer, tennis, and field hockey.
The USATF sanctioned 5k Run/Walk kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at Forest Park's Cyr Arena. The Trafton Road entrance (off Dickinson St.) will be open for free entry for race participants. Parking is available in the Cyr Arena lot.
The entry fee is $12 until July 9, and $15 after that date. The entry fee is waived with a $25 pledge to the Leukemia Society. T-shirts will be given to the first 200 registered participants. First overall Male and Female runners each will receive a pair of Red Sox tickets. Additionally, all registered participants will be entered into a drawing to be eligible to win a pair of Red Sox tickets. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd male and female runners and to 1st place runners in all age divisions.
