Physicians stage health fair on Sept. 8
springfield Hampden County Physician Associates, LLC and Abundant Wellness Center are jointly sponsoring a free community health fair on Sept. 8 from 9am to 5 pm at The Clarion Hotel, 1080 Riverdale St., W. Springfield. The fair will focus on educating the general public on prevention and treatment of many diseases. Physicians from Hampden County Physicians Associates and Practitioners from Abundant Wellness Center will hold 30-minute presentations on various health topics including food allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, laser treatment for varicose veins, gynecology and women's health issues, oncology, healthy living, smoking cessation, acupuncture, chiropractic care, guided medication, massage therapy with free mini chair massages, yoga and pilates demonstration, and nutrition.
In addition to the presentations, blood pressure screenings, cholesterol testing, and spirometry testing will be offered. Demonstrations on first aid, the Heimlich maneuver and CPR will also take place at the health fair. The Vendor and Community Service Area will have representatives from pharmaceutical companies as well as local community services such as Visiting Angels, Mercy Hospital Bloodmobile, and entertainment by the Clowns of Shriners Hospital for Children.
Debee Boulanger, a massage therapist and founder of the Abundant Wellness Center located in Chicopee, discovered early in her career that much of her clientele needed more than therapeutic massage to develop a healthier lifestyle. Since June of 2004, she and a caring community of like-minded practitioners, recognize that wellness, as a whole, is a component of many things. Practitioners at the Abundant Wellness Center believe that diet (quality of food), exercise (trained movement), bodywork (therapeutic or relaxation) and spirituality (not referring to a religion) all are parts of health, wellness and the whole person. Debee Boulanger states, "Our practitioners have successfully worked with clients and their physicians to address specific injury or illness concerns and develop treatment plans that include acupuncture, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and/or other styles of bodywork. Here at the Abundant Wellness Center, we encourage our clients to take responsibility for their health and to listen to their bodies. Our practitioners' primary focus is the need and concern of each client. We respect the fact that no two people are the same and work with everyone on an individual basis to maximize the benefit of treatment."
