Red Cross seeks volunteers
Memorial Day is a special day that provides a formal time for many Americans to give pause to acknowledge the service of our fallen military; and appreciate the service of our current active duty military personnel.
Did you know that there is a way that you can aid our servicemen and women and their families across the country right here in the Pioneer Valley on an ongoing basis? The American Red Cross Pioneer Valley Chapter Armed Forces Emergency Services Call Center is a program that serves our nation's military and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The program staff handles emergency communications between military members and their families for more than 90 Red Cross chapters nationwide.
Volunteers are needed to assist caseworkers in gathering information and contacting families to verify quality of service delivery. Interested individuals should have empathy for military families in crisis, as well as excellent telephone manners; and the availability to volunteer a minimum of two hours each week. Full training will be provided.
An informational open house will be held on June 23 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Valley Chapter, 506 Cottage St., Springfield. Tours of the Center and information about the program, and many other volunteer opportunities will be available. Refreshments will be provided.
Please join us as we outline the many ways that you can make a difference in the lives of our servicemen and women. For further information, or to register to attend, please call Laura Birks at (413) 233-1004.
