Westfield State offering new health programs
WESTFIELD - Westfield State College (WSC) Community Education will provide several new and fun programs to help you keep your body healthy and in shape: Tai Chi, Ballroom Dancing II, Heal Yourself Through Holistic Nutrition. Whether you have arthritis, have recently had surgery or an accident, or simply want to improve your posture, balance and muscle strength, or know more about how to eat well, all three of these classes will be helpful.
WSC Community Education offers Tai Chi for Arthritis, a form of Tai Chi, specially designed by Dr. Paul Lam and a team of medical experts. Based on the Sun style Tai Chi, Tai Chi for Arthritis is easy to learn, effective and safe. It increases flexibility, muscle strength, and increases heart/lung activity, aligns posture, improves balance, and integrates the mind and body.
The American Arthritis Foundation and other Foundations around the world have adopted this program and are conducting the instructor's workshops. And thousands of people with arthritis have gained relief from their condition. Wednesdays, six sessions May 23 - June 27, 10 - 11 a.m. Call 572-8034
Come Learn to Dance Like The Stars! Take the entire class, or drop in for a session. Steven Verducci, award-winning Ballroom Champion five times and his team returns in April to take you to the next level of ballroom dancing. You will be learning smooth, rythm and swing in this exciting dynamic class. You will also review some of the traditional American dances you learned in Level I such as the fox trot, Viennese waltz, and quick step, samba, cha-cha, tango, rumba, bolero, mambo, and merenge. Come as a couple or come alone. Leather sole shoes required.You will not be disappointed. Steve can arrange private lessons after class or on another evening. Take a journey inside and outside your body. You will discover how nutrition directly affects all aspects of your life, how it can prevent or cause disease, keep you healthy, raise your vibration and heal your already compromised or diseased body. What you eat, how foods are combined, and how they are prepared can directly affect your health and well being. This class will cover the truth about vitamins, minerals, enzymes, accessory nutrients, genetically engineered foods and the hazards they present, dieting and much more. Additional Classes in April: Conversational French at Westfield State College Community Education: Whether you need to polish up your French for business purposes or are going to travel this summer in a French speaking country, this class will help you with your pronunciation, understanding of the French communication style, core phrases, and just getting around town.

Introduction to ArcGIS I: Westfield State College Community Education presents an intensive two-day, hands-on class, which will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the functionality of ESRI's ArcGIS desktop GIS software (for ArcView 9, ArcEditor 9, and ArcInfo 9). Learn to display feature and tabular data; work with geo-referenced spatial data; query features using logical expressions; find features using spatial relationships; edit spatial and attribute data; associate tables with joins and relates; and produce maps, reports, and graphs.
The class incorporates a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, and discussion. All participants are provided with course exercise & lecture books, a course exercise CD and an evaluation copy of ArcView, Monday & Tuesday, two sessions, May 21 and 22, 9 - 5 p.m. Call 572-8034
