LONGMEADOW — Longmeadow Superintendent Marie Doyle was the recipient of the 2010 Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE) Administrator's Award for Technology Leadership.

"It's quite an honor," Doyle said. "I know that many of my colleagues were all vying for the same award."

The honor was awarded to Doyle for her work with the Carlisle School District before moving west to Longmeadow in July. While acting as the Carlisle Superintendent, Doyle, among other things, oversaw the creation of the district's Tech Mentor program, which pays teachers familiar with technology resources to teach their colleagues.

While in Carlisle, Massachusetts State Rep. Corey Atkins referred to Doyle as the "Technology Superintendent," according to the MassCUE 2010 Annual Technology Conference program.

Doyle has already begun making strides to improve the technology used in the Longmeadow school system, as well.

"The town just gave us $200,000 for computers and to upgrade our phone system," Doyle said. "With the money, we're going to be able to purchase more student computers."

Doyle added that with the computers, the district will also be able to use more software to assess students' progress.

"It's extremely important," Doyle said of keeping the district in the know in terms of current technology. "It's going to raise our students' achievement level."

She expects that in the near future the schools will begin using Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces (ALEKS), "a math program that reinforces things taught in the classroom."
