The LEEF grant recipients were introduced last Wednesday in the School Committee meeting room at Longmeadow High School.

Last Wednesday the Longmeadow Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) awarded 21 grants to Longmeadow Public Schools teachers. LEEF Publicity Committee Chairman Joe Aberdale introduced the grant recipients at a ceremony in Longmeadow High School. This year, over $119,000 was given to support special projects, equipment and more in Longmeadow classrooms. "Demands on teachers are greater than ever before," Aberdale said. "Teachers must do more with fewer resources." He said he has visited several classrooms where LEEF grant money has been put to work and "observed the enthusiasm and gratitude and how [the grants] are making a difference in the classroom." LEEF President Ellen McKenna said the organization has raised $800,000 to date, with almost $359,000 in grants awarded over the last 5 years. "What was once a simple concept became the most rewarding reality," she said of LEEF and its impact on the schools. Those receiving grants were, from Longmeadow High School: Mark Cormier, John Williams, Susan Bayley, Geoff St. Pierre, Lori Snyder, Janet Smith Coyne, Rita Hawker, Paul Dunkerly, Lori Robbins, Mark Staples, Heather Kosiorek, Stacy Palozie. From Glenbrook Middle School: Vicky Deal, Daniel Albert (also of Williams Middle School), Pam Novak, Anne Marie Salvo, Lucie Olszewski, and Ann Boyajian. From Center School: Karen Rafferty, Marcie Kearing, Nina Metz, Elaine Weiner, Sue Dufraine, Deborah George, and Antrese McColgan. From Williams Middle School: Kathleen Lawson. District-wide grants were given to: Sandy Budreau, Kelly Kimball, Donna Hutton, Nancy Moriarty, Tracy Bradshaw, Karen Shea, Maureen Wilson, Linda McShane, and Suzanne Wiggins. Some of the grants were given to teams of teachers, and each school will benefit from the awards.
