Longmeadow conducts Fire Department pinning ceremony

Date: 7/30/2015

LONGMEADOW – Recently appointed Fire Chief John Dearborn (left) and newly recruited firefighter Rick Pinkman (right) were congratulated by Town Manager Stephen Crane (center) after a badge pinning ceremony.

Crane said he never has to worry about the Fire Department because of the great leadership and performance of the members of the department.

“It’s that commitment to the organization, to the town and the department that is really the reason why I don’t hardly ever have to worry about it,” he added. “That’s a great thing as a manager, but at as a resident, it’s even better. I just want to commend Chief Dearborn, who has been a big part of that and I think he’ll be an even bigger part of that moving forward.”

Dearborn shared a story in which an elderly resident recently saw his photograph in a local newspaper and congratulated him. She told him that exactly 16 years ago the week prior to his appointment as chief was when he was at her house delivering her grandson.

“One of things she remembered was how the guys came, after we took her daughter to the hospital, and helped her clean up the house,” he added. “The guys showed up and took that little extra effort to help her out and take care of the family. That’s what you guys do every day and that’s what goes a long way.”

Also in attendance were Select Board Chair Richard Foster and East Longmeadow Fire Chief Paul Morrissette.
