LPS announces kindergarten screening

LONGMEADOW The Longmeadow public schools will conduct its annual screening for Longmeadow kindergarten children during the months of September and October.

The purpose of the screening is to identify children who are suspected of having a special education need so that further evaluation can be conducted to determine this.

The screening is a quick scan of functioning in the areas of speech and language, auditory and visual processing, motor development and vision and hearing.

Although the screening is required for public school students, it is optional for private and parochial school students. Longmeadow children who attend schools outside of the public school district and who are five years old by Dec. 31 can be screened at their parents' option. Parents may arrange for this screening by contacting Dr. Gail Mengel, Office of Public Services, at 565-4210, X33 by Sept. 30.

If your facility services school-aged Longmeadow children who are not enrolled in the Longmeadow schools and you would like to be on our direct notifications list in the future, contact us at the above number.
