Odyssey Bookshop hosts author Medea Benjami

SOUTH HADLEY The Odyssey Bookshop is pleased to welcome author and peace activist Medea Benjami, co-editor with Jodie Evans of the book, Stop the Next War Now: Effective Responses to Violence and Terrorism, on June 1, at 7 pm.

The event is co-sponsored by The American Friends Service Committee of Western MA and SAGE.

How can we humanize each other and act as responsible global citizens? Stop the Next War Now, edited by renowned peace activists Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans, shares expert insight on the issues and powers-that-be that can lead us to war--including the media, our elected politicians, global militarization, and the pending scarcity of national resources.

It aims to educate and reflect on the effectiveness of peace-movement activities and offers hope, through shared ideas, action steps, and practical checklists to transition from a culture of violence to a culture of peace.

Over 70 experts, scholars, artists, activists, and journalists come together in Benjamin's book, including Congresswoman Barbara Lee, conscientious objector Camilo Mejia, author Barbara Ehrenreich, columnist Arianna Huffington, Benazir Bhutto and environmentalist Wangari Maathai.

Benjamin is founding director of Global Exchange and cofounder of CODEPINK: Women for Peace. She lives in San Francisco, CA.
