Local businesses support Westfield on the Weekends

Date: 11/20/2014

WESTFIELD – United Bank and the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home are challenging the Westfield businesses and residents to get involved and support Westfield on the Weekends (WOW) by attending its events.

The two businesses were recently named the lead donors in the 2014-15 Community Challenge, and United Bank has pledged to match donations through Nov. 25 up to $10,000. The money will be used for funding of future WOW’s events.

Though the Westfield Business Improvement District was dissolved this summer, WOW has continued to host events. This challenge is a chance for the community “to realize that programming will still be going on,” WOW treasurer Barbara Trant said.

Mayor Daniel Knapik said that the support of United Bank and Firtion-Adams should encourage community members to join the cause, as well.

“Firtion-Adams and United Bank are just two of our most enthusiastic supporters of downtown programming and revitalization efforts,” Knapik said in WOW’s announcement of the pledge.  “I am hopeful the local community will respond to this challenge and donate to this worthy cause.”

Trant also said that while the two leading donors are local businesses, the challenge is not just extended to Westfield business owners.

“It isn’t aimed specifically at businesses,” Trant said. “It’s an opportunity for the community to get involved.”

WOW has been providing programming since 2003 and previous events include Westfield MusicFest, pub tours and Westfield Harvest Days. Thus far, the challenge has raised $1,960.
