HAMPDEN On Dec. 7, the Hampden Board of Selectmen announced it had received, and was honoring, Police Chief Scott Trombly's request to resign his position.

According to a press release received Dec. 7 at Reminder Publications, the Board of Selectmen will initiate a search for a new police chief as soon as it is practical. Trombly has been asked to remain as police chief until a new chief is selected.

Following that appointment, Trombly will return to his original permanent position with the Hampden Police Department.

In the press release, Board of Selectmen Chairman James Smith also praised Trombly for the manner in which he provided leadership during the October flood, responded to the recent tragic hunting accident in town, and handled his departmental responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.

Board of Selectman Chairman James Smith was unavailable for comment at press time. Chief Trombly did not return repeated calls requesting a statement.
