Nomination papers available for Hampden town government seats

HAMPDEN - Always wanted to get involved in your town's government?

Your opportunity is knocking.

Nomination papers are now available in the Town Clerk's office for residents interested in running for any of 14 town government positions for which terms expire in 2007.

According to information provided to Reminder Publications by Town Clerk Eva Wiseman, these positions incude: town moderator (one-year term); Planning Board (two-year term); Board of Selectmen (three-year term); town clerk; town treasurer; collector of taxes and Board of Assessors (one position).

In addition there will be an opening on the board of trustees for the Hampden Free Public Library, the cemetary ommission, park commission, three constables and a member of the planning board (five-year term).

According to the town meeting and election schedule, the deadline for submitting caucus nomination papers for the Democratic caucus is March 14; for the Republican cacucus, March 15.

Unenrolled residents interested in seeking office must pick up nomination papers by March 15 and submit them to the town registrar by April 2.

Wiseman said that she has already submitted papers for re-election to the positions of Town Clerk and Collector of Taxes, as has the current Town Treasurer, Tracy Sicbaldi. To her knowledge, all incumbents are also planning to run for re-election.

The Annual Town Election will take place on May 7 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Hall.
