Amherst marks Tibetan National Uprising Day

Date: 3/17/2022

AMHERST – Area Tibetan Americans joined at the steps of Town Hall on March 10 for the 63rd anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day where a flag raising ceremony occurred before a Walk for Tibet from Amherst to Northampton. The ceremony and walk comes after the Town Council voted on their Feb. 28 meeting to approve their 2022 Tibetan National Uprising Day Proclamation.

State Rep. Mindy Domb, Council President Lynn Greisemer, and fellow Councilors Pam Rooney and Jennifer Taub were in attendance and each took time to speak to the crowd in attendance. Town Councilors read their proclamation and Domb credited the Tibetan resistance in their non violent methods and their fight showcases the importance of democracy. Domb and Griesemer both assisted in the raising of the flag.

Members of the Regional Tibetan Association of Massachusetts, based in Amherst, followed the flag raising by leading a Walk for Tibet starting from the Town Hall’s front steps and ending in Northampton.
