AMHERST – The Bartlett Tree Experts will give away 500 tree saplings at Atkins Farms Country Market in Amherst for Arbor Day on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Greg Beck, the Bartlett Tree Experts local manager in Northampton, that their office enjoys giving out saplings every Arbor Day and as much as possible year-round.
“In fact, we give out tree saplings at least a few times each year at town block parties, Earth Day and Arbor Day events, parades, etc.,” Beck said. “We know how important trees are, and when you hand someone a sapling it gets them thinking about the trees on their property. Questions then often ensue on how to properly care for the trees on their property.”
The Northampton location is just a small cog in the Bartlett Legacy Tree Program, which has given away upwards of 436,000 tree seedlings as of 2021, since its inception eight years ago. The Legacy Tree Program was established to support tree planting and stewardship in local communities by distributing seeds to individuals and to restoration efforts. Bartlett’s 120-plus offices distributed over 50,000 trees last year alone. Trees have been dispensed to over 30 U.S. states, three Canadian provinces, and overseas in greater London and Dublin, Ireland.
Beck said when they are not giving trees away, the Bartlett Tree Experts specialize in providing scientific tree care and practicing all aspects of sound arboriculture, ranging from removals, proper pruning, soil care, pest management, and tree-risk assessments to full-on tree inventories. Their Northampton arborists specialize in tree and shrub problems specific to Western Massachusetts, but also have access to Bartlett’s global resources and advanced scientific research facility.
