Residents joined members of the Town Council at the Bangs Community Center on Jan. 15 to honor the life and legacy of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. Speaking on behalf of the Town Council, Councilor Ellisha Walker offered thanks to the Human Rights Commission and the officer of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for their work in arranging the event. The attendees were led in a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” followed by a reading by councilors of the town proclamation observing MLK Day. Members of the community then took part in a reading of King’s 1964 Nobel Peace Prize Lecture “The Quest for Peace and Justice.”
