Safety Day brings Amherst residents and public officials together

Date: 8/16/2022

AMHERST – The Amherst Police Department, Fire Department and Community Responders for Equity, Safety and Security (CRESS) Department collaborated with the Senior Center to host a Community Safety Day on Aug. 13. The day featured safety and K-9 demonstrations, Touch-a-Truck with fire engines and police cruisers, songs, puppet shows and more.

“I had reached out to the Police Department, Fire Department and CRESS to ask if they were interested in doing this,” said Senior Services Director Hayley Bolton. “About one-third of all 911 calls are people 60 and older. It’s really important that our older adults have the educational resources and have a good relationship with first responders. And it just showcases we’ve got a new department, everyone’s working together for all of Amherst to be a safer place.”
