AMHERST — The Lighting of the Merry Maple will again be the center of a host of activities on Dec. 1 as the annual holiday cavalcade returns to the Town Common.
The tree illumination is only a part of the day’s events said Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Claudia Pazmany.
“We have performances by the Amherst Regional Middle School Chorus and the [University of Massachusetts] Marching Band,” she said.
Sing-a-longs and a special appearance by Amherst Recreation’s Flakey are also on the agenda.
Also planned is an Open House at the Fire Station and Horse Drawn Rides provided by the Muddy Brook Farm while cider donuts will again be featured along with s’mores and firepits hosted by Amherst College.
“We are lighting a different maple right on the main common,” Pazmany said. “The other merry maple is under construction and last years has since been removed.”
Santa will be escorted in members of the Fire Department and the UMass Marching band following the lighting of the tree.
The annual celebration of the holidays is presented by the chamber and the BID and runs from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.
