EASTHAMPTON — The Council on Aging is collecting all manner of cozy, warm items through November and into early December for its Share the Warmth drive. Donated items will be distributed through the Easthampton Community Center and to residents of the Wright Home for Women.
The drive, now in its fifth year, began after a conversation with Robin Bialecki, executive director of Easthampton Community Center about the needs of the community.
“She is seeing consistent growth in folks who need her help,” explained Dawn Graichen-Moore, program manager for the Easthampton Council on Aging.
The cozy item drive is collecting new or handmade hats, mittens, scarves and socks.
“We have folks who knit and crochet throughout the year to contribute items to share, including the members of our drop in knitting/crochet social group that meets on Wednesdays,” said Graichen-Moore.
Although the drive has been going well so far, Graichen-Moore is hoping to collect much more over the next few weeks.
“We appreciate the community for making and purchasing things to share,” said Graichen-Moore.
The drive began at the beginning of November and will continue until Friday, Dec. 8. Items can be dropped off at the Easthampton Council on Aging at 19 Union St. during open hours: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
