Registrations accepted for Hampshire Regional golf outing

Date: 5/18/2021

SOUTHAMPTON/WESTHAMPTON – The annual Hampshire Regional High School (HRHS) Golf Tournament will officially take place  on June 27 at the Southampton Country Club.

The HRHS Booster Club, a nonprofit organization filled with parents who volunteer time and effort to benefit HRHS sports, is currently asking foursomes to register for the tournament, which has a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

The tournament costs $90 per golfer, and includes golf, cart, and a dinner afterwards. Non-golfers can attend just the dinner for $25.

“We’re hoping that we fill up sooner rather than later,” said Meg Pond, president of the HRHS Booster Club. “We’re taking foursomes on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we’re hoping to sell out.”

According to Pond, the booster club would prefer that people sign up as a foursome, but if one person could only find one or two other people to attend with them, then the club will work on pairing them up with others. Pond recommends that no one signs up as an individual.

Pond was first involved with this golf tournament in 2019, and the club had to cancel it in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our hope was, when we put it in place for 2019, we were looking to make it an annual event,” said Pond, who also added that this annual tournament could not be possible without the help of John Lasek.

According to Pond, the club will be following whatever COVID-19 guidelines Southampton Country Club has in place. While there is no official limit for how many people can sign up, Pond said that the tournament usually maxes out with around 20 foursomes.

The tournament is an opportunity for the community to come together and support the student-athletes, according to Pond. “It’s a little bit unique than some of other fundraisers that we run just due to the nature of the golf tournament,” she said. “It is a very important fundraiser for the booster club.”

In general, the HRHS Booster Club provides athletes awards such as varsity letters and pins. The club also uses the funds they acquire to update their banners in the gym to support athletes, and contributes team championship gear if a sports team from the school wins some type of championship, whether it be league, Western Massachusetts or state. “We also use the funds to support individual team requests from coaches,” said Pond.

Those looking to sign up for the tournament can do so at https://hampshire-regional-booster-club.square.site. The flyer asks that everyone’s name in your group is added to the list, along with an email and phone number. Players also have the option to print the flyer and mail the information to 19 Stage Rd., Westhampton, MA 01027.

The club is also seeking support in the form of tee sponsorships or prize donations. There are three levels of sponsorship this year, or you can donate a prize. People can contact Pond at 374-5555 to arrange a prize pick-up or if they have any questions about the sponsorships. People can either fill out the form online or print and mail it to the same address listed above.
