Date: 8/16/2021

SOUTHAMPTON – On Aug. 11, the Southampton Board of Health implemented updated face covering guidance to combat the growing presence of the delta COVID-19 variant.

The guidance states that all individuals over 2 years of age  are required to wear a face covering whenever they are indoors in any Southampton municipal building, regardless of vaccination status.

The order will remain in effect until the Board of Health rescinds it.

The Board of Health also issued an advisory for everyone over the age of two to wear face coverings in public areas or in other indoor areas, regardless of vaccination status.

The guidelines do not apply to those who have a medical condition or disability that may hinder the wearing of a face covering in public. The requirement and advisory also does not apply to those who have a hard time communicating with it on due to a hearing impairment or other type of communicative disability. Masks will not be required while eating or drinking.

Masks will still be required in public and private transportation, healthcare facilities, congregate care facilities, emergency shelter programs, correctional facilities, healthcare and day services operations and home health care workers.

The public health director for Southampton could not be reached for comment as of press time regarding to these new guidelines.
