HAMPSHIRE COUNTY – With Veterans’ Day right around the corner, communities across Hampshire County and the region will be honoring veterans with a variety of events and services on and around Nov. 11.
Amherst
According to Rebecca Twining, the investigator for the Central Hampshire Veterans Service District, the Annual Veterans’ Breakfast will occur at the Bangs Community Center at 70 Boltwood Walk in Amherst on Nov. 11. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and breakfast will begin at 9:30 a.m. A brief ceremony will follow at North Common. Tickets for the event are available at the Amherst Town Hall, Senior Center and American Legion.
Easthampton
Residents are invited to join the city in their annual Veteran’s Day observances on Nov. 11. Starting at 10 a.m., the firing squad detail will assemble at the American Legion Post 224 in Easthampton.
At 10:30 a.m., a delegation from VFW post 3422 and Legion Post 224 will proceed to the Town Hall Civil War Mounument. A brief ceremony including a prayer, lying of a memorial wreath, a rifle salute and the playing of Taps will be performed. The delegatoin will then proceed to Brookside Cemetery Veterans moniment and repeat the ceremony.
At 11 a.m., the delegation will again perform the ceremony at the monuments at the Emily Williston memorial Library.
There will be a main ceremony back at the American Legion Post at 11:30 a.m. where there will be an opening prayer, a guest speaker, award presentations and musical selections performed by the Easthampton High School Band. Refreshments will be served following the ceremonies.
Granby
Granby will honor local veterans with a service at the Boulder across from the Carnegie Building, also known as “the Old Library” at 9 a.m. on Veteran’s Day.
Holyoke
The United Veteran’s of Holyoke are presenting their Veteran’s Day Ceremony at the War Memorial Building at 310 Appleton St. The Veteran’s Day ceremony will have doors open at 9 a.m. for refreshments before beginning the ceremony at 10 a.m. The keynote speaker of the event will be Brigadier General John Driscoll, retired veteran of the U.S. Army. Northampton
The Veterans’ Council of Northampton hosted their Annual Veterans Breakfast on Nov. 5 at the Blue Bonnet Diner with guest speaker Harry Parker, a retired Sergeant Major.
Meanwhile, on Nov. 11, a ceremony will be conducted at 11 a.m. in front of Memorial Hall in Northampton.
South Hadley
South Hadley residents can head to Michael E Smith Middle School on Veteran’s Day for a 10 a.m. ceremony led by the American Legion and VFW.
Williamsburg
A ceremony will be conducted on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street in Williamsburg.
