Westhampton Selectboard waiting on state in order to host tax classification hearing

Date: 12/16/2020

WESTHAMPTON – On Dec. 7, the Selectboard met to discuss their fiscal year 2021 (FY21) budget, schedule a tax classification hearing, and discuss their search for a new treasurer.

During the meeting, Selectboard Chair Phil Dowling informed the public that they were unable to schedule the tax classification hearing because they are waiting for the certification of values and new growth from the Commonwealth.

“As soon as we get that new growth number, we are going to call a meeting so that the tax bills can go out on time. We will have to do it immediately,” Dowling said.

Westhampton subsequently scheduled a tax classification hearing for Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m.

At the Dec. 7 meeting, the board also voted to form a review committee to review applications for a new treasurer. The committee will consist of  board member Maureen Dempsey, Town Accountant Joe Boudreau, current Town Treasurer Patricia Cotton and Provost. Provost said the town plans to fill the position by the new year.

Provost also announced that she will be leaving the town clerk position effective March 31, 2021. She told Reminder Publishing that she is leaving this position to place all of her focus as the administrative assistant and allow the town an opportunity to fill the position with another individual.

Information on the vacancy is available on the town’s website, www.westhampton-ma.com.
