CHESTER – Town Clerk Rosemary Dalesandro posted the following results of the town election held on Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Eighty-six residents returned early/absentee ballots, and 72 voted in person, for a total of 158 votes cast. Dalesandro said considering there were fewer hours, no contested elections, and no questions on the ballot, the turnout was good.
“Last year, there were all kinds of questions,” she said, and 175 people voted.
Dalesandro said this year was her first election as town clerk, and it was impacted by the pandemic.
People were asked to wear masks and given hand sanitizer when they entered. If they didn’t bring their own pen, another request from the town, they were given one that was then sanitized and put aside for the fall election and not reused.
She said chairs were marked off, and there was never a big line of people.
“People were very courteous. They were very, very aware of the situation. They came prepared, stayed in their line, and did everything they were supposed to do,” Dalesandro said.
Top vote getters were: Selectman - John Baldasaro; School Committee - Frank Pero Jr.; assessor, three-year term - Tim Dunn; assessor, two-year term - Marjorie Dunn; assessor, one-year term, Michele Kenney; Board of Health, three-year term - Elizabeth Massa; Board of Health, one-year term - Greg Harrison; library trustee, three-year term - Teresa Donovan and Mary Ann Pease; and Electric Light Commission, three-year term - Duane C. Pease.
The Annual Town Meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 29 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
