Khalif Neville Trio brings jazz to the Green

Date: 8/3/2021

HUNTINGTON – Keyboardist and bass guitarist Khalif Neville, drummer Talyn Neville (sons of the late Charles Neville) and Jason Szafranski on guitar brought Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and the Neville Brothers New Orleans sound to the Huntington Town Green on the afternoon of Aug. 1 in the first performance of this year’s North Hall Arts Festival.

Nearly 90 gathered to enjoy the open-air music despite gathering rain clouds that could have pushed the concert inside Stanton Hall.

The series continues with Wild Thyme Band on Aug. 15 performing Celtic folk music, drawing from the rich repertoire of Irish, Scottish traditional and French Celtic music. On Aug. 29, the Old Country Road Band brings vintage country tunes dedicated to keeping the sound of “true” country music alive.

Next month’s concerts begin on Sept. 12, featuring the Bob Sparkman Trio. Bob Sparkman on clarinet, Jerry Noble on piano, and Kara Noble on electric bass will take the audience on a journey through traditional jazz, swing and the American Songbook. The series ends on Sept. 19 with José González and Criollo Clásico playing blends of classical, folk and contemporary Latin rhythms.

The Huntington Town Common Green is at 24 Russell Rd., at Routes 20 and 112. The five-concert series is sponsored by Massachusetts Cultural Council and the arts councils of Chester, Cummington, Huntington, Middlefield, Montgomery, Russell, Westhampton and Worthington.
