PALMER – In the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year, Palmer High School will be offering a new EMT course.
The course was presented by Palmer High School Principal Susan North this past spring and was unanimously approved by the School Committee in May.
During the Sept. 21 School Committee meeting, North provided an update on the course and expressed her excitement for the new offering.
“The Palmer Ambulance Department is going to volunteer their time to work collaboratively with [science teachers] David Triozzi and Jared Haley,” said North. “Because of their generosity, we are able to have all the students participate in this course.”
She shared that they had six students on the waitlist because they were only able to fund 10 students at the time. However, they are now able to offer all 16 students the opportunity to take the EMT course.
“All students will receive one credit if they pass the class and once they turn 18, they can take the state exam. If they pass that state exam, they will be licensed as an EMT,” explained North.
Open positions
Amanda Babinski, director of finance, shared that each school is looking to fill at least one faculty position. She noted that there are also several secretary positions and administrative assistant positions that they are working to fill through active interviews.
“As always, we are very interested in substitutes for paraprofessionals, teachers, van monitors, drivers,” among others, said Babinski.
She went on to say that the schedule is pretty “flexible” for interested substitutes, as they continue to search for more.
