Fish sleep in VFW make wake up call

Date: 6/19/2013

The Hampden Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Kid's Fishing Derby was a success despite the fish supplier being two and a half hours late. Once the derby started, all went well and the kids enjoyed the rest of the day.

The VFW went to plan B and served the hot dogs, chips and soda early instead of after the event. We thank all the children and parents who stayed with us waiting for the fish to arrive and apologize to those folks who had afternoon commitments.

The Hampden VFW Post 9397 and all the veterans and patrons would like to thank the following for their support for the 51st annual Kids' Fishing Derby: the Hampden Lions Club; Tony and Denise of the Hampden Sign Co.; Gary and his staff at the Hampden Village Food Mart; the Hampden Gio's Pizza crew; Tom of the Hampden Scantic Variety/Grog Shoppe; Sue and Karen of Hampden Professional Cleaners; Linda and Mark of the Hampden Hardware & General Store; Rob Desilets of Pro Style Graphics in Springfield; Claire and Terri of the East Longmeadow Family Barber Shop; Billy Bond of Hampden Septic Inc.; the Hampden McLadden's Irish Publick House; the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9397; Selectman Vincent Villamaino; the volunteers, staff and patrons at the VFW; and the citizens who donated a dollar for a paper fish.

We thank you all for helping us make the event a success. From the officers and members VFW Post 9397 in Hampden.
