On Thursday March 8th, Wilbraham Republicans will host Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Lively, who identifies as a Christian pastor.
Mr. Lively co-founded an organization, Watchmen On the Walls, whose anti-gay rights mission led the Southern Poverty Law Center to declare it a hate group. Further, Mr. Lively has been charged with crimes against humanity for his direct inspiration for the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act, which includes the death penalty as a potential punishment for practicing homosexuals.
I have read that “some” Wilbraham Republicans have questioned hosting Mr. Lively. I hope the group will consider what it means to host a man whose life’s mission is to discriminate against other human beings for no other reason than to satisfy his own hateful biases, and what it means to grant him any semblance of normalcy by humoring his gubernatorial run in any way.
