Reminder Publishing has its own regional impact

Date: 8/15/2023

In this week’s Reminders as a third section, readers will find Reminder Publishing’s newest publication: “Impact: honoring the past, present and future of our region.”

This is the first of what will be an annual product, celebrating Western Massachusetts’ history, delving deep into current issues or projects and looking to our future.

It’s not every day that I get the opportunity to sit back and reflect on the work we at Reminder Publishing have accomplished over the past several years, but this new publication has brought me to a contemplative state.

One thing we do not do well enough — and are working to remedy — is our external marketing. While each week readers pick up our newspapers that of course have our logo and other branding materials, we do not take the time to shout from the rooftops the immense strides we have made in the past several years.

Why? Well, we’re too busy writing. Too busy selling advertisements. Too busy circulating our 240,000-plus papers across half the state.

So here I stand today, taking a moment to attempt to humbly share how proud I am to work with the people at our office.

For well over a year, maybe even two, I have been talking with various staff members about wanting to change one of our former products — Community Outlook — into something else. Something that would better serve readers. Something that anyone in our circulation area of over 60 towns could pick up and relate to or be interested in — if not every story inside, almost every story.

If there is one thing the Reminder Publishing staff does not do — it’s back down from a challenge. When the managing editors and I shared our idea of Impact and the story leads we fleshed out with staff writers, explaining how we wanted this product to include thoughtful, in-depth stories from the region, we were not met with complaints or groans. In fact, nearly each reporter in the midst of creating this product asked me if articles had a word limit, as they uncovered copious information they wanted to include.

A story we did not include in Impact as — admittedly — it would be much too self-serving, is the impact we at Reminder Publishing have had on the region in the past several years. We do not take our responsibility of bringing 12 weekly newspapers, one daily newspaper, two monthly magazines and countless special sections to Western Massachusetts lightly. We have experienced a news renaissance in the past five years, launching 10 of those 12 newspapers and purchasing The Westfield News. We are proud to serve readers in almost all Western Mass. counties.

This little passion project of ours is now complete and in readers hands, and with each year we continue Impact, I hope to continue to build on it and grow.

We have always been your hometown news — but I can confidently say I have never worked with a more dedicated team who genuinely works each day to serve you. Thank you for reading our papers.
