Landon to celebrate 30 years with Falcons

American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced that the league, in conjunction with the Springfield Falcons, will be recognizing Falcons team president and general manager Bruce Landon on his 30 years of front-office service to hockey in Springfield.

Bruce Landon Night will be held at the MassMutual Center on Nov. 3 when the Falcons play host to the Manchester Monarchs.

"Bruce's contributions to the American Hockey League through the years are remarkable," Andrews said. "As a player, marketer, promoter and manager, Bruce has become synonymous with hockey in the city of Springfield."

Landon first came to Springfield as a goaltender for the AHL's Kings in 1969, and when a knee injury forced him to retire from the Springfield Indians at age 28 in 1977, he was hired as the club's director of marketing and sales. He was promoted to general manager in 1982, and presided over the Indians' back-to-back Calder Cup championship teams in 1990 and 1991. After the Indians left in 1994, Landon kept AHL hockey alive in Springfield by spearheading an investment group that was awarded an expansion franchise, and he has served as the Springfield Falcons' president and GM ever since.

Landon has been recognized by the AHL for his work on several occasions. In 1979-80, he earned the Ken McKenzie Award honoring the individual who best promotes his or her team during the season. He was a recipient of the James C. Hendy Award in 1988-89 as the league's top executive, and he was given the Thomas Ebright Award in 2001-02 for outstanding career contributions to the AHL.

The Falcons will also be hosting a post-game roast at the MassMutual Center as part of the evening's festivities. Tickets will be priced at $15 per ticket for the roast with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Tickets will be available at Falcons home games leading up to the event and also available through the MassMutual Center Box Office.
