Dorsey moves up to fourth on Pride’s all-time scoring list

SPRINGFIELD – During a Springfield College 14-7 women’s lacrosse victory over Babson, Wilbraham’s Michelle Dorsey made fourth all-time on the career goals list with 138, passing Allie Bazzano '10, who finished her career with 136 goals.

Dorsey, a senior, finished the game with a hat trick, while also assisting a goal.

With the win, the 19th ranked Pride clinched the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season title, as well as the No. 1 overall seed in the conference tournament.

Dorsey also finished with three goals and an assist in a 22-3 victory over Smith College on April 15.

Castleman again earns Defensive Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD – The Commonwealth Coast Conference  (CCC)?announced on April 20 senior Emily Castleman of Wilbraham earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades in women’s lacrosse.

Castleman, a goalie, collected 44 saves in a 2-1 week for the Golden Bears. In an 18-13 win over Roger Williams on Tuesday, Castleman had 17 saves to help give the Hawks their first CCC loss. In a 15-12 triumph over conference rival Endicott on Saturday, she had a career-best 20 saves while posting a 62.5 save percentage. In a 15-11 loss to nationally ranked Williams on the road Thursday, she had seven stops. On the week, the elementary education major averaged a 55.9 save percentage. She also was the CCC Defensive Player of the Week on April 6 of this spring and April 21, 2014.

Elms shows improvement at Wildcat Spring Invitational

CRANSTON, R.I. – The Elms College men’s golf team finished 17th overall at the 2015 Wildcat Spring Invitational, hosted by Johnson & Wales University (RI) at the Cranston Country Club.

The Blazers carded a team score of 658 (336-322) in two rounds of competition, with Elms posting the top improvement from the first round to the second round, shaving 14 strokes off their score. Brian Cowles of East Longmeadow shot a 163 (80-83) to take a share of 50th overall.

East Longmeadow’s Matt Fontaine also tied for 50th for Western New England University with a score of 163 (82-81) as the Golden Bears finished seventh (634). Fellow Golden Bear Mike Metcalf of Longmeadow finished 84th after shooting a 171(91-80).

Elms softball sweeps Elms as coach reaches milestone

CHICOPEE –  Gina DiGiovanni of Springfield went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base and Springfield’s Rachel Beery also scored a run in an 11-2 game one win in a softball doubleheader against Bay Path University April 19.

Beery and DiGiovani both also drove in two runs in the nightcap, a 9-3 victory, while Agawam’s Jessica Colson earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs in five innings while striking out six.

Coach Cheryl R. Condon reached another coaching milestone, earning her 400th career victory during the sweep.

Forrest leads Elms from top of the lineup

HOLYOKE – Brady Forrest of Hampden drove in two runs as the Elms College baseball team defeated visiting Southern Vermont College 6-4 on April 19.

Both RBIs came on a two-out double that extended the Blazers’ lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
