EAST LONGMEADOW Now that winter is finally over (fingers crossed), it is time to start thinking of what activities you're going to pursue during the warmer weather. If you're interested in golf, you may want to stop by the new Pole-Kat Golf Factory Outlet in East Longmeadow.

The outlet store, previously located within the Ski Haus at 16 Shaker Rd., moved into its own location at 46B Baldwin St., off of Maple Street, in January. The 2,500 square foot space is exactly what Pole-Kat Golf needed, according to owner Tom Veratti.

"At the Ski Haus, we were in someone else's space," Veratti said. "We needed to move, give us our own identity."

Veratti said he's planning on hosting a weekend-long open house for the outlet store near the end of the month.

In addition to Pole-Kat Golf merchandise direct from the manufacturer in Florida, Veratti's shop offers close-out brand name equipment like Nike and Adams as well as hot new items like the Yes! putter, which Veratti said is very popular with the pros right now.

The store also offers hybrid clubs which can take the places of long irons, according to Veratti. He described the clubs as being in between irons and woods, with the shape of a small fairway wood but with the driving distance of a long iron. The store offers six different kinds of hybrid clubs.

Pole-Kat Golf will be showcasing unique color-coded compression balls at its grand opening. Depending on what size iron a golfer uses for a 150 yard drive, he or she will want to look into different compressed balls. Veratti said by knowing what kind of compression you need, you can add distance to your drive.

Having more space means Veratti now has room for customers to test out the clubs they are considering purchasing on a indoor putting green or against a hitting net with a built-in analyzer.

"That's really popular," Veratti said. "It's so much better for them [the customers] to test what they want before they buy it." He invites customers to bring in their own clubs for testing to compare.

Veratti said the store offers adult and kids' clubs, and custom fit items can be delivered from the manufacturer in five days.

"We offer personal customization and service with direct from the factory prices," he noted.
