Open Pantry plans its second annual run/walkDate: 9/6/2011 SPRINGFIELD Open Pantry will be hosting its second annual 5K Run/Walk Against Hunger on Oct. 1. The fund-raiser will take place in beautiful Forest Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the event will kick-off at 9:30 a.m. Snacks and refreshments will be available.
Awards will be given out to the top three runners (women and men’s categories) and for the top pledge earners for the walk. There will also be professional timing for runners. Complimentary drawstring backpacks will be given out to all participants.
This new fund-raiser will provide essential funds to operate Open Pantry’s programs, which include the Loaves and Fishes Kitchen (L&F) and our Emergency Food Pantry (EFP). In 2010, the L&F kitchen served more than 77,000 meals while the EFP provided groceries and non-perishable food to more than 30,123 individuals and families.
This is a great opportunity to support and actively show concern for people who are homeless, hungry and disadvantaged in the community, according to Allison Maynard, director.
“We need your help in order to continue to provide these services,” she added.
Financial sponsors, walkers and runners are equally needed to make this fund-raiser a success. Those who’d like to walk, run or sponsor or those who need more information, may contact Kim Kennedy at 746-6241 or kkennedy@openpantry.org.
