Volunteers needed for crisis intervention services
SPRINGFIELD The Domestic Violence Volunteer Advocate Program at Baystate Children's Hospital's Family Advocacy Center is looking for volunteers to provide crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence treated at Baystate's Emergency Department.
The Domestic Violence Advocates are dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence by providing assistance to those impacted by intimate partner violence.
Domestic Violence Volunteer Advocates are called to the Emergency Department at Baystate Medical Center when a patient has been identified as a victim of domestic violence and is requesting help. Volunteers will provide support and advocacy for patients between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 24-hour coverage on weekends and holidays. Volunteers will be asked to cover at least one night per month.
Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, undergo a health screening, reference checks, and complete a nine-hour training program which will be held at Baystate Medical Center on Oct. 18 and 19 from 3-7:30 p.m. Volunteers will also be required to attend monthly education luncheons.
No prior domestic violence advocacy experience is needed.
