Local dentist, army of supporters march for cancer researchDate: 10/31/2014 SPRINGFIELD – Dr. Amy G. St. Germain, a dentist in East Longmeadow for the past 18 years knows firsthand about the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer.
Two years ago this month St. Germain visited her doctor and within days she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This began her long journey of breast cancer treatment. St. Germain is so grateful to all who helped and supported her through a very difficult time.
She thanks her associate, Dr. Candace Levy Katz, and manager, Lisa Giroux, who worked diligently to make sure her patients were well cared for, as well as her staff – hygienists Theresa Provost and Amelia Leo; certified assistants Linda Ashley, Lisa Fernandez and Ania Wojcik; and laboratory technician and brother Russell Greene.
Additionally, she is grateful for the emotional support given to her by her three daughters Courtney, Melissa and Karlan, and her grandchildren.
St. Germain would not have had a feeling of solace without the intimate care she received from her partner, Erik Ferguson, her dog, Casey, who was her “Chemo Cuddler” and her long time friend and massage therapist, Mindy Meeker.
St. Germain gives special thanks to her patients who continued treatment with Dr. Katz in her absence and Dr. William Bontempi and Dr. Steven Paolella of Berkshire Facial Surgery who checked in on her regularly, as well as Western Mass Endodontics who helped with emergency coverage.
Mostly, St. Germain is thankful that she has had a full recovery and that so many family, friends, patients and colleagues have donated to the Rays of Hope Walk which St. Germain and her team, Dr. Amy’s Army attended on Oct. 19.
St. Germain’s message is, “You know your body, if something is not right get it checked now and get those mammograms.”
