Longmeadow resident named Community Clinician of the YearDate: 5/15/2014 WALTHAM – Longmeadow resident Francis D. Murray, M.D. has been honored by his peers of the Hampden District Medical Society as the district’s 2014 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing his professionalism and contributions as a physician.
He received the award at the district society’s annual meeting May 6 at the Delaney House in Holyoke.
Board certified in internal medicine and currently in private practice, Murray has been practicing in Springfield for nearly 25 years. A graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, he attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, and earned his M.D. from the Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residences at St. Elizabeth’s Center in Boston.
From 1988 to 1995, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Murray is a staff physician at Mercy Medical Center and Baystate Medical Center.
The Community Clinician of the Year award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to patients and the community and who stands out as a leading advocate and caregiver. The Hampden District Medical Society has some 1,100 members who live and work throughout Hampden County.
The Massachusetts Medical Society, with more than 24,000 physicians and student members, is dedicated to educating and advocating for the patients and physicians of Massachusetts.
The society, under the auspices of NEJM Group, publishes the New England Journal of Medicine, a leading global medical journal and website, and NEJM Journal Watch alerts and publications covering 13 specialties.
